FIRST YOU NEED TO SEE WHAT SIZE TRANSFORMER YOU HAVE FEEDING YOUR HOUSE. THEY ARE USALLY 10-15 kVA (KW) THEY ARE USALLY RATED AT 200% FOR 2 HOURS SO TO RUN YOUR HOUSE WITH A TRACTOR. YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED 25 kW CONT/50KW SURGE GENERATOR. WE RUN OUR HOUSE WITH ONE 3000 SQUARE FEET ALL ELECTRIC WITH HEAT PUMP. IT WILL RUN IT FINE BUT IT REQUIRES A 50 PTO HP TRACTOR MIN. WE HAVE A 42 HP IH 484 AND IT WON'T RUN IT. NOT ENOUGH POWER. SO WE USE A BIGGER 55 HP TRACTOR YOU ALSO NEED TO PUT A 2 WAY TRANSFER SWITCH INBETWEEN YOUR BREAKER BOX AND UTILITY LINE ITS NOT CHEAP $462 IN 1994. BUT IT WILL KEEP FROM ELECTROCUTING A POWERLINE WORKER. MAKERS OF GENERATORS I WOULD RECOMMEND A GENERAC BRAND. IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A GRAINGER SUPPLY CATALOG YOU CAN GET ONE UNDER THE DAYTON BRAND MADE BY GENERAC.
