That is by design. They want these things to break, wear out, be in the scrap yard in 5 years. A good friend told me yesterday, "we have became a society of obsolescense". Whether or not that is spelled correctly or if it is not a real word, forgive me. I think the obvious meaning is true. We have tractors from the 1900's that the true life expectancy has not even been realized yet because THEY ARE STILL RUNNING. I have several tractors (3 Red and 3 Prairie Gold) but only one that was made AFTER I was born. I don't forsee the demise of any of them anytime soon because there is nothing on them I cannot fix when it breaks (with the help from my friends on this board). NO WAY will any manufacturer make tractors this tough anymore. They can't if they wish to stay in business. Look at new trucks, they are made to wear out so you will be in the dealership within 5-10 years buying a new one. Same with tractors. I have always said IF Case(yuck) IH would build the '06 or the '56 series to the exact specs again today or even the letter series(with ergonomic improvements) they couldn't sell them fast enough. They won't because they last too long. Again, the REAL life expectancy cannot be realized because MANY MANY are still in use today and will be as long as parts are available. Sorry to write a novel, this is just something I feel is deeply wrong (although possibly very necessary) with our volatile economy.
