mwkellner: A mag has a magnet and coil inside that is used to self generate a voltage to fire the sparkplug. Sorta the reverse of an electric motor if ya wanna think of it in common terms. The energy comes from turning the engine over either hand start or battery start(or rolling down a hill like some do) Most mags are well built and outlast distributors which are a cheaper way to mass produce machines.
