I've never been able to get completely rid of the smoke at switch over. Actually what I usually do is pull back the switchover lever and then quickly advance the diesel speed control. I still get smoke. Yes, some MDs did have a Bosch injection pump. I've never seen one, but know they exist. I've seen MDs with an ignition cut off switch, but all that I have seen with that were modified, I assume because something went wrong with the switch in the manifold chamber, or the linkage that operates the switch when you move the switch over lever. I've never seen an MD with a battery ignition, but I suppose there may have been some like that from the factory. The parts catalog, the operators manual and the service manual I have do not show a battery ignition, only a magneto. I grew up spending many hours on an MD. Not sure of the year, but I think it was around a 1950 model. My dad and uncle used that tractor for 20 years until they quit farming. Never had much trouble with it and it did a lot of hard work.
