Almost any light non detergent oil is ok. It must be non-detergent for a hydraulic system, or you will get foaming and all sorts of problems. I had a bunch of automatic transmission fluid that I got for nothing, and am using it for one of my implement lifts. It would normally be too expensive, but is a good hydraulic fluid, except maybe a little light for heavy Summer use.
