I own a Super M and my grandfather/uncle owns a 1945 or 46 M. For power, my SM has it hands down. It runs a little higher RPM at wide open and doesn't seem to torque down as low as that M. Red Rider said that it had a better head design, which may be true, but I also may have better pistons than the M (M has original pistons, I believe my SM may have been partially restored a few years before I bought it). In my opinion, there are many Ms and only a handfull of SMs, so I would spent a little extra and go for the SM. I doubt you will be dissapointed. Good luck.
