Haas covered it pretty well, but let me add a couple more items:

1 - Before you install the new spark plugs shoot a couple squirts of motor oil from a hand oiler into each combustion chamber. Do this with with the decompression lever in the "gas" position. This will pre-lube the cylinder walls for the first start.

2 - Before replacing the plugs, and again with the decompression handle in "gas" position, crank the motor with the starter until oil pressure shows on the gage. This will spread the oil you shot into the cylinders, and also will insure that the crank bearings, valve mechanisms, etc. are well-oiled before you fire it the first time.
