Shimmy Plate

More than once the shimmy plate for the front end on the old H M SH SM SmTA 300 400 350 450 tractors has been on this forum, and how do they go in place. I had to check with my IH friends before stating how they go cause it has been a long time, it would seem I was right just had to be sure. The shimmy plate is thick on one side and thin on the other and if I rember right the IH ones had front marked on them. The thick side goes to the back so it sets the wheels forward. Think of it as a caster on a shoping cart the wheel is behind the center of pivot so as they wear they shimmy as you push them so if you were to move the wheel closer to center or on center they would not shimmy. whether or not this will make the tractor steer harder I could not say. The shimmy plate should only be used if all else does not fix the problem, whish can be expensive.
