Les, Given the facts as you have presented them here, my response would be different. You should be aware my response was to your original post which asked a question "re: What should I do now?" No need to be resentful, as I responded to the question you asked: "I offered $200 for a W 450 diesel with a broken rear end housing and the guy accepted. Now I've got to decide if I really want it enough to pay somebody to haul it home for me." Doesn't that sound, even to you, like you were considering weaseling out of a deal? If I read it wrong, I'm sorry. What can I reasonably do to make up for not reading between the lines? Of several thousand posts to the internet, every one has included my full name and email address. Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
