Look over the engine block closely for welding that would be a sign of earlier cracks. When I got that far down the check list (four years ago!), then I remembered four things: 1)these old tractors were built for and first owned by farmers who might not have ever owned one before -- just like you and me -- and working on them is pretty straightforward; 2)depending on where you live, there just might be a few old fellas around who'd be more than happy to give you a little help; 3)count on it: working on old iron will be more expensive than, say, basketmaking or paint-by-numbers, but a whole lot cheaper than psychotherapy, and 4)this bulletin board is the first best source of support and information and encouragement anywhere!
