I was hauling my H to a show recently behind my Dodge 1 ton and had to make an emergency stop on the freeway, my trailer brakes didnot function and I'm just glad that there was a smooth shoulder for me to dive off on to.Other wise it would have been messy! I have since fixed my trailer brakes and added a second set for the other axle.
The H had all 4 tires loaded and 1 set of weights and weighed around 6000#
A 1/2 ton pick up just doesn't have the brakeing power to stop a load like that. It'll work if there's no big hills to go up or down or if some bone head in front of you doesn't decide to slam on his brakes for a jackrabbit. You can never tell what's going to happen, be safe not sorry!
