My $.02 worth. I am 53 and have a 49 Cub. It was my grandfathers. I learned to drive it when I was 10, much shorter (6' 4" now) and a lot more agile :-(. Grandpa had it rebuilt when I was in the Army (69-71) and it still runs perfectly. I have a 20 acre Arabian horse (read hobby) farm in western Missouri. I needed a tractor to pull things, plow the garden and mow the pasture. I went to Oregon to get this tractor from my brother who has my Grandpa's farm. He wasn't using it and the cub had sat in the barn for 10 years. I do computers for a living, and I can tell you that there is nothing more satisfying than driving this cub to mow the pasture. I have three daughters. My youngest was hit by lightning and now has a learning disability. We took the Cub out in the pasture and in low gear, I taught her how to drive and how to do more than one thing at a thing at a time when you are guiding a machine. It is a skill all normal drivers take for granted. My cub is PRICELESS. I couldn't sell it if I wanted to. It gives me and my girls a connection to their Greatgrandparents. My middle daughter is going into the nursery business. She has already told me that when I can't drive the cub anymore, she wants it. I couldn't be happier about it. I think that we all have a responsibility to pass our love of old equipment onto our kids. It gives them a much needed sense of where they came from and anchors them for the future. By the way, to all of you that read this post, thanks for the information on this site. I was a mechanic and a machinist before computers, and I have learned sooooo much just reading your notes.

Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
