Steven, the pilot bearing I put in my '47 H came from the local clutch/brake shop and was sealed on both sides. The original had a seal on only one side. I took a pick and popped the seal off of one side before putting it in the flywheel. Much to my dismay, the grease put in at the factory was barely noticeable. Some of the balls in the cage were dry. I understand that while turning with the clutch disengaged, all of them will eventually get lubed - but for how long? I am glad I didn't leave the seal on as the temperatures that this bearing are subject to cannot guarantee long life. Now all I have to do is be sure the Alemite fitting (zerk) is clean before giving it a shot.
