well, im am 32 now with a wife and 3 kids. my wife has talked to me about possibly moving away from the farm we live on that has been in my family since the 1880's. when i was growing up, the farm was all i knew. i knew more cows than other kids my age before i started school. of course while growing up, you dont like the chores, putting up hay, fixing fence, splitting wood, cutting trees, etc. in high school was when i started to appreciate those things, and at that time a few people i knew lived on, or helped out neighbors on their farms. today, most all of the farms are subdivisions. i have had an intense desire over the past 10 yrs to get to do the things on the farm i use to do as a kid because now it is relaxing from my mentally demanding job. my '52 cub and '73 354 are so special to me now because i get to use them for fun essentially. i am trying to restore the cub slowly so i can use it to cut hay and cultivate. i look back and can see the benefits of living on a farm, and how those things have shaped the person i am today. a more simple life from living in a subdivision where i cant go in the back yard and 'go see a man about a horse' without a neighbor complaining or calling the cops. i want me kids to get to experience the things that no one else their age will probably get too. my 5 yr old son goes out with me to work on the tractor and plays with the wrenches and sockets and has a good time. my investment return by having some farmalls around isnt really based on their relative monetary worth, but for the character they can help build for my kids in association with living on a farm and having to do some hard work. i would not sell my tractors, unless i got some better ones and whatever i got would be a nice red color. so when it comes to an investment, my farmalls augment the benefits of living on a farm and helping to raise a family to be the best that they can possibly be. just my $.02.

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most ... [Read Article]
