The manual I have calls for 20 weight oil for the MD up to 90 degrees temperature. Above 90 degrees, it calls for 30 wt. It also has an insert saying to use heavy duty detergent oil. Of course that manual is over 50 years old. I have opted to use 15W-40 diesel rated oil in my MD and it works fine. I have a newer diesel tractor also and use the same oil in it.
