This afternoon I opened up the starter from the '53 Super A that I am restoring and was surprised to find that although it was fairly grimy on the outside the guts were like new. I think someone must have been through it not long before I bought it. Just wanted to check a few things before I get ready to paint. First, the Bendix drive should not be lubed. Second, I was wondering how the original type of switch attached to the starter. Shortly before I bought it some bodged on a solenoid and key switch wired with #4 cable (and after reading some posts on here it's a wonder it worked at all). At the moment it has one long post (threaded copper rod?) and two screws where the switch should attach, the long post is closest to the operator. Will the new switch fit onto this or will it require work to get the switch to fit? Thanks in advance. SAm in NS
