Sam: I don't know a lot about Nebraska tests other than they are recognized by the industry as a standard to compare tractors by. They do two basic tests; (1) PTO or belt hp which is performed on a dyno, (2) Pull which determines drawbar hp. These tests are controlled to achieve the standard ratings. PTO testlasts several hours to prove the tractor will achieve the rated hp for the specified time. The pull for drawbar hp has three main factors; weight, speed and time. Not the same as you or I hooking to a load just to prove we can move it. Most tractors tested at Nebraska have higher PTO-belt readings than drawbar. That is because power shafts and belts are more efficient than tires, usually 5% or more higher. It also takes hp to move the tractor. One of the few tractors ever to come close on the two readings was the Farmall 350.
