I have sold a lot of stuff on ebay and had good luck. Ok I had a couple bad eggs try to wreck my day, but for the most part it has been great! I have also bought most of my "toys" on Ebay because the things I like are hard to find in this area and may never see another around here. When I sell something I am always amazed at how few people seem to know how ebay really works. True it is sort of like a real auction, but, if you wait till the last min to put in a bid, just over what is shown, you will almost always lose. A lot of people do wait until the last min and the ones who win the auction bid the maximum they are willing to pay. Also the bid increments are raised higher as the price increases. I watch a lot of my auction at the end and there is usually a flurry of bidding going on at the end. I have also seen where a guy tried to bid but the web site was slow at the last min and he lost out. They usually email me with a last minute higher offer, but I stick to the rules and sell to the high bidder. The "proxie" bidding is great to use also, It takes the worry out of trying to beat the clock. If there is an item that is at a 10 starting price and you know it is worth 100, you can bid 100 and if the other bidders only bid 50, you will win it at 50 plus the next bid increment.Last summer I went canoeing with some people and we were out way after dark still in the middle of the lake miles from the nearest computer. One guy had a cell phone and had some kind of internet access on the phone. A canoe catalog from the 1890s he had bid on earlier and was the high bidder on , suddenly he got out bid on it and he was automaticly notified about it on the phone/pager, he decided to bid higher than he previously had and started punching buttons on the phone. He won the auction right before it ended and did it while sitting in his kayak out in the middle of a lake in the dark. I have to admit it was pretty exiting and one of the more unusual ebay stories I ever heard, and I was right there watching the whole thing in my canoe!
