I buy and sell thru Ebay quite often.there's a couple of things you should do. The first thing you can do is figure out just exactly what the item is worth to you and deduct any shipping and place that as your maximum bid. I've lost alot of auctions that way but I knew what I can buy the item for elsewhere. So if the bid went higher than I bid, some fool just got screwed. Or at least he must have thought it was worth more than I did. It happens all the time with the tractor parts and collectables. I have had some sellers come to me when I was the high bidder but the reserve wasn't met. The Seller would sell the item for my bid or we could come to some haggled price. It takes a very good sense of what an Item is worth to keep from taken on Ebay. Most sellers are very honest about the condition of their items, but some aren't. If they say a tractor is in poor condition, don't try to second guess them and figure that they just don't know what they're talking about. I know from experience!(not on a tractor but much smaller items)
