Walked up across the road to start the H. I had just bought a 12 foot Aluminum boat from the neigbor's estate sale. Pulled the starting crank out of the drawbar clamp hole and pulled on the magneto kill switch. I made sure the tractor was not in gear and pushed the sleeve of the crank on the t-post. I pushed the crank in to engage the flywheel and spun it over hard. NO start. Hummm! I thought, I am gonna spin you good. I pushed it in, engaged the flywheel and let her go. The tractor started so fast, the crank slipped out of the T-Post, spin around down and up and blasted me on the side of the head, just front of my left temple. In slow motion, I watched my glasses fall to the Earth, and blood sprayed from a deep gash in my scalp. The farmall H popped along, purring to me. I stopped the bleeding with my left hand and killed the H. I walked down to the house and put my head under the bathtub spigot for ten minutes. I felt sick.

1/2 hour later, I walked up there and started the H the correct way, with short uplifting twists. I learned my lesson. Tractors can hurt you if you let them. My scar has healed, remarkably well. The memory will never leave me.

Scott
