Check your plugs, and all the ignition parts. Check your switchover mechanisms, especially the connections to the carb and the butterflys in the manifold. When you are in gas mode, the butterflys in the manifold are positioned to direct air through the carb. When you are in diesel mode, the carb float is locked up to prevent gas flow to the carb. Maybe the float is sticking and not dropping down to let gas flow. Check that you have gas flow to the carb. Also, you may want to check clearance on the decompression valve mechanism to be sure they are opening to spec in gas mode. I find on my MD, that it requires choke to run and the engine has to be completely warm before it runs good on gas without the choke. Also how are you shutting down. You need to switch to gas to shut down and let all the gas run out of the carb. Be sure to switch the start lever back to diesel after it dies on gas. Switching to gas for shutdown makes the next start easier, as it burns out residual diesel in the cylinders and the decompression chambers. If everything is like it should be, the MD should start easily on gas.
