hi charles, i am in the process of haveing same problem, i bought a 51 cub. it gringed going into gear, i tryed adjusting the clutch, it got worse.i took bottom inspection cover off and found pieses. i ended up spliting my cub to put in a new clutch. i was able to split my cub in under 3 hours. i hope you get lucky and dont have to spilt it. good luck. new clutch kit runs about $200 or less. i found one threw valebuilt for $150
