17 years ago I bought a '52 Super C. It ran good, was in good shape, Touch Control, Fast Hitch, 2 btm. plow with it. About 5 years ago, I put a Central Tractor 3 pt. conversion on it and run a 5' foot hog for keeping my pastures down; I hog about 22 acres each year. This has been my main tractor for all of this time. About a year ago it started smoking so over the winter, my son and I tore it down and re-did the engine. Well, "while you're at it, why don't you do the clutch too, recondition the radiator, etc., etc,..." Well, we are now about a month away from painting it. But, I guess I got off on a tangent; this tractor has done all of my serious work, what little there is on 40 acres, since 1985. It is the only tractor I have that I would not sell, if I had to sell some of the others. It's handy, maneuverable and with the 3pt. conversion, you have the best of both worlds for implements. This tractor will "pull a lick" too at the local fairs and shows, much to the surprise of some people. Anyway, the best tribute about a Super C came from a JD man, a guy who bleeds green and yellow; he had never even driven one and then after driving mine, offered to trade me his good JD 50 for it. Now, the JD 50 is a nice tractor but for me and what I do, I wouldn't part with my Super C. I had a JD B once but sold it.) Little long-winded here but I guess you now know how I feel about a Super C!

In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
