H brakes are a little different than brakes on a car. I think you are referring to short and long shoes in drum brakes, correct? The H, and many other old tractors, have band brakes. They have a long, thin strip of metal with friction material on the inside. This wraps around the drum. When brakes are applied the strip cinches down on the brum. Same principle as the "strap wrench" advertised on TV. Maybe someone has some pictures of a brake job they can send you. The guys on here are great about helping out, so feel free to ask a bunch of questions when you are ready to do your brakes. If you live in central KY I may even be able to help. I haven't done any myself but 2 heads are often better than one. Good luck, Fireman
