I checked my parts book last nite. The "long" side of the band goes over the top of the drum on both R & L sides. It connects into the top pin hole on the brake band lever. There are R & L brake band levers. The L part # is 58349D & the R part # is 58349D. Woodrift key goes into the split by the bolt on the brake band lever arm on both sides. As Chris says, Mike is right. Sounds like the pin is in the wrong hole or you have the wrong brake band lever on one side. Sometimes you can't go by the "way they were" as the last guy that worked on it may have had it wrong! (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
