I'm getting ready to install a choke rod on my '44 H but am unsure of the correct orientation. The archive photos from books I have are not much help as the air breather blocks out any details. My question is this: does anyone know if the choke rod passes through the center opening on the front gas tank support (i.e., along side the gas line)? Or does it travel behind the air breather toward the steering shaft, bypassing the rear tank support? The parts manual shows what appears to be a single bend in the rod, but I'm not certain that this eliminates either option. I'm not an originality freak, but my past experience suggests that the original IH engineers did most things for a good reason (as I've learned the hard way in some cases). There are a few groves already worn into the rod suggesting that if it contacts metal to metal anywhere along its run I'll eventually be looking for a new choke rod. As always, any help would be most appreciated.
