T 340 crawler ? for old IHC mechanics

A friend has a T340 with a broken track tensioner spring. He would like to find a spring and then his next problem is how to put it in. I haven't seen it, only talked to him on the phone and he seemed perplexed. Any thoughts or tricks to know about this job. Thanks in advance ,Bruce
