Hey, I think the duramax is most likley a good engine, but unless you do a lot of pulling like more than just once a week i dont think you can justify buying a diesel. The duramax option is about $5000 more than the 8.1 liter. You do the math, but you would have to drive over a hundred thousand miles to break even. With the diesel you get the headaches of a high maintainence diesel. you have glow plugs, and injectors that will constantly give problems as it ges older. I just think you would be happier with the gas burner. It offers a few more horsepower, and not much less torque, with much less headache. The 8.1 is just a BEAST Just my thoughts, william
