Hi Jim, I've done some limited work on my 240-U steering box. Had to take the steering gear out because the woodruff key sheared. I ended up having to cut another key slot 180 deg. on the shaft because the original one was too worn. I removed the front axle, lower bolster, and the retaining ring that holds the gear in. At that point, you can remove the universal on the worm gear shaft (and front cap) and slide the worm gear out. The castle nut on the shaft holds only the bearing on. If you decide you need a replacement, be aware that tractors with power steering had 25 teeth on the steering gear, while ones without used a lower gearing (50 teeth). Be sure to match it with what you have. I've noticed on mine that quite a bit of steering slack is coming from worn tie rods and worn universals on the steering shaft. I'll try to tackle that next. Some steering slack can also be taken up by rotating the steering gear 180 deg. Hope this helps some. It's not a terribly difficult job unless you do have to find some replacement parts. Good luck. Mark
