is the spring loaded carbon in the center of the cap still in place where it makes contac with the rotor and does the rotor line up with the #1firing order on the cap when you put the points in you might have not lined the rotor with right pos to fire when rotor is lined with posts on the cap how did the wire get hot and welded itself to the case
