I would consider having it checked by a shop familiar with the DT407 engines. These engines were known for having a lot of soup and may be nothing wrong with the way it is set now, may just be the nature of the beast. A lot of 1256's in this area were sold when new and nothing uncommon to put out 160 hp plus right from the factory and the 1456 has an even higher hp rating. I would have it checked on a dyno, it may be ok.
