This is where the C 113 and c123 engine blocks usually crack. Someone probably let it freeze. The block can be repaired and will likely last for years. I'd take the block out and find a good engine shop and have it welded. If does not sound as though your crack is very bad. The JB weld suggestion may work well for you.
