Wayne: Most older tractors had what is termed a thermosyphon system. That has no theromstat. Thermosyphon relys on hot water riseing up to the top hose and flowing to the radiator and flowing down as the water cools. Be sure and have "NO-GAP" at the very top of the water. That prevents normal flow from developing. It's quite common to have some splash off. Don't always fill right to the top but rather let it find its normal-full level. Those older systems worked well once you understood how they operated. The mid 1950's saw most change to closed systems. The Farmall C series had both types. Water pump was extra cost option. G.
