If it does have a Continental engine someone swapped it for the original. Shop Mules were built from 1918 to 1950 by the W.F.Hebard Co. of Chicago. From the mid/late 1930's they used IH engines and drivelines, some tractor, some truck and some mixed. The A-14 and A-21 models were the only ones that used "tractor sheet metal". They had U-2 (FarmAll A) power plants. There were other models, the "midget series" that looked like runaways from the bumper car ride at the county fair and larger ones, the A-14V that used U-4 (FarmAll H) power, and the J-series that used the 233cid IH truck engine. In 1950 the BUDA co of Harvey, IL bought Hebard out and continued to build them as BUDA-HEBARD Shop Mules until 1953 when Allis- Chalmers bought BUDA out.
