Kirk - One ammeter post should have only one wire on it - the one that connects directly to the hot (battery) side of the starter solenoid. ALL the other wires (from the alternator or regulator "BAT" terminal, also the feeds to the ignition and light switches) should go to the other terminal. If your tractor is negative ground, the single wire should go to the unmarked ammeter terminal, and the other wires to the "+" ammeter terminal. (The ammeter positive may be marked with a red dot instead of a "+"). Or if neither ammeter terminal is marked, simply hook up the wires to the ammeter then turn on the lights and check the ammeter. If the needle deflects to the left you are all set. If it deflects right, simply swap the wires on both terminals.
