I just went through this today on a 1956 IH Low-Boy Cub. Rebuilt the carb but would only run fully choked and then eventually would die. The longer it sat the longer it did run on start up. Always took right off on start up. What I found out was lots of CRUD in the gas tank had worked its way down into the fuel shutoff valve passage and plugged things up and also there was corrosion on the inside. I replaced with a brand new valve/sediment bowl and it ran fine for an hour and was once again plugged up. I had to clean out the valve/passageway 3 times and rinse out the gas tank and so far its running fine now. What I did was unscrew the plug on the bottom of the carb where the float is and watch the gas run out. I had a drip every 10 seconds or so. Shut off the drip eventually filled the float level and it took off and ran fine. As the fuel level dropped it required more choke to stay running and eventually died. Todd
