I once had a loud grinding noise towards the rear of my f150. Had to be the rear end, I thought, cause it came on so suddenly. Immediately went to the junk yard and bought a new rear end. $$$
the whole thing. New U bolts also.
Swapped it all out in only 6 or 8 hours and buttoned it all up with the old U joints... you guessed it... same noise.
New U joints and presto!
Now who's dumb?
