Sounds like the condenser. When the go bad, for some reason, when it gets warm it shorts out, or opens up, whatever, it has happend to me on my H and Harley. Replace the condenser and might as well do the points while you are at it. And while you are carresing the engine might as well take a hard look at the cap, rotor, pluggs and wires.

Some times when I have a problem I start with a tune up and by the time I'm done the problem is discovered or gone with the old parts.
