I do the same as steve, but I cut off the head of the bolts with a peanut grinder and remove the manifold and then I have a lot of bolt to heat and use a vise-grip to remove the bolt. The only reason I do this is I want to heat the bolt not the head. I will try to heat the bolt with the manifold on since the manifold will act as an insulator.
