Do NOT use ready rod and do NOT use a smaller size. If you heat the stud with a cutting torch and hit the cutting lever it will cut the bolt out and leave the threads. OR the machine shop should be able to easily drill them out and tap and install heli coils in them for not too much $$. I twisted 2 head studs off in my H block, tried drilling one (crooked) and even broke an easy out off in it - shop charged $20 to fix both of them.
