That was an option, I can't remember which way it worked. My dad bought an H in 1952, and with both narrow and wide front. He used the wide front in haying for pulling wagon and hayloader. He wanted wide front so tractor front end wouldn't tramp windrows. I remember the first year something was missing and he had to go with longer wheel base. I remember him complaining to dealer, telling him he may as well have a locomotive in hay field. I assume the plate you guys mention was missing.
