Front pivot on 41 A

New problem last night... the front pivot tube has been broken and it looks as though the pivot is one piece and then welded to the axle tube.
It has been welded about 5 times judging from the amoount of weld on it. I am going to cut the old out but my question is, Is the tube a a special type of steel?? The shaft that runs through it is fine and I can get the material and bore out for the shaft. So can I use "normal" steel shaft and bore it out??
