Plasta guage is an accurate way to measure clearance if you don't move crank. When you put the .001 to.003 guage in and it did not compress this means you hav more clearance. When you put in the larger size and it reads .007 this is your clearance. Check another journal and see what it reads. I check all crank work done by the machine shop before I assemble an engine and I think its very accurate.
