When rebuilding any engine it is a good idea to run some oil into the oil pump before you install it. If it's going to sit a long time b4 being run some vaseline will stay better even. If the oil pump is high above the oil pan it is important to do this. I've seen a dry pump not start pumping until primed on some of the old flathead sixes in cars.
