finaly got my super c running but... LONG

yesterday I finnished rebuilding my super c engine and fired her up. everything went perfectly except for the head gasket was leaking out the sides a little. it was a felpro gasket so I know, you dont have to say it. I'll get a new one at the case dealer this week and do it right. this morning I started it up and it started ticking. guess how mad I was to find a bent push rod. the machinist at a local big named parts store that I wont't name is sure lucky they are closed today. I took the head to him last monday. I had already removed the guides and resurfaced the valves and cleaned the head at work. I wanted him to install new guides and cut the valve seats. that was all I said to do and I was very specific! well he took it upon himself to replace the springs also ( I had already baught new ones at the dealer) he put the wrong kind on it for one thing. the exhaust valves all have rotators with special springs. he installed what their book said was right and beleive me if I had tried to start the engine the way he had set it up it would have been a very bad day. he also didnt intall the guides at the height I specified. .750 inch I told him and I also wrote it down. he installed them at 1.125. the valves could only be pushed down 1/16 of an inch by hand like that and there was no room for the valve safety clips. also umbrella seals were on it and I told him it didnt come with seals and if he did the job right it wouldnt need seals. well I was up most of the night fixing all of this "machinists" mistakes and I guess the moral to this story is know your mechanic or machinist and never never never trust someone else to do work that you could have done yourself! I work as a mechanic at a case and kubota dealer and was an engine machinist for 15 years. I just didnt have the time so i took it to someone else.
