My Farmall 230 busted an axle last winter. I took it open in the gear box and found that 2 of the counter gears are worn. Since its a dandy time to get it over with I tried to remove the upper {counter shaft}. You guessed it theres no getting it loose enough to slide the gears off. I ground off and punched out the retainer pin on the reverse idler and it slides freely somewhat but feels like its hitting on a raised edge? Whats the secret of getting that shaft to slide to the rear? I assume it slides through the rear bearing into the rearmost compartment enough to replace those bad gears or am I screwed up.
