I agree with what Ed says below. Trailer Brakes are essential if you are traveling more than a few miles, or on anything but back country roads. An M or Super M and a trailer are going to approach 8 to 10,000 lbs depending on your trailer. Be sure your trailer is of sufficient capacity. That much weight is a stretch for a 1/2 ton truck. Short distance you can make it, if you don't have too many hills. The M does not have live power unless someone added the M&W clutch to it. You'll need a super M or later, and not all Super M's have live power.
