Hi, Lee. The numbers are coming from a table pf Rockford clutch specs in the I&T manual and are different for an M. They list early and late Ms, but don't say where the break is. In either case, the fingers should be set to 2-21/32" from the face of the pressure plate. If 47 is a "later" M, you should find 12 pressure springs on your clutch. If that is the case, the cover should be at 1-1/32" If there are only 9 springs, the cover should be 1-3/32". My own limited experience with clutches has taught me to never remove a spring unless I have to. You shouldn't have to remove any to adjust the throw of the clutch assembly. If your clutch is way out of whack, it's conceivable you might have to loosen one of the fingers to get the throw from the cover set right, but you shouldn't have to back it out entirely.
