You will find adjustable axel/wheels on all Row Crop tractors. The reason is that different crops ie., corn, soy beans, cotton, etc are planted in different width rows. Over the years these row widths have also changed, corn used to be planted in 36" rows and then it droped to 24" spacing and now it is even less than that. In order to cultivate and spray these crops the tractors have to fit in between the rows. Thus the adjustable width wheel base. In your case a wider width would be more stable than a narrow width.
