Hey Ken - Here's what I'd do: 1 - Make sure the regulator is SOLIDLY grounded (I like to run an aux ground wire from the regulator base back to where the battery ground cable connects to the frame to be sure) 2 - With the battery hooked up and the motor stopped, polarize the generator (temporarily connect the BAT and ARM terminals at the regulator with a jumper wire. Soon as you see a spark you've got it....) 3 - Fire up the motor and run at 1/2 speed or higher. Now temporarily jumper the BAT and ARM terminals at the regulator. If the ammeter now shows charge, the regulator is NG. 4 - If still no charge, ground the generator F terminal. If ammeter indicates charge, again the regulator is NG. If still no charge, the generator is at fault. Note: The above presumes you have a voltage regulator (not a cutout) installed. If you have a cutout, process is same as above except at #4 the cause could also be a poor ground at the light switch/ammeter box, a bad light switch or a bad field resistor attached to the light switch. Hope this helps and good luck!

Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
